Case Study 05 - Construction Company - Weber Projects

Building a Stronger IT Foundation for Construction

Weber Projects operates across construction, development, and property management with a distributed team and a broad mix of business applications. One Piece IT proposed a coordinated support model bringing security, backups, vendor management, and website support under one technology partner.

Overview

Organization

Weber Projects

A construction, development, and property-management company supporting nine staff and six contractors.

Industry

Construction & Property Management

Supporting a work-from-anywhere team across business applications, office systems, and three websites.

Challenge

Fragmented IT Management

Internally managed technology, scattered business data, and growing security, backup, and support needs.

Solution

Coordinated IT Support

A proposed managed-services approach connecting endpoint protection, backups, vendors, and website support.

Challenge

Supporting a Distributed Team Across Disconnected Systems

Weber Projects relied on ten computers, one physical server, and business applications including QuickBooks Online, Dropbox, and Buildium. Company information was spread across employee computers, Dropbox, Google Drive, and external hard drives, creating a varied environment for a team working from multiple locations.

With IT previously managed internally, the company identified security, remote support, procurement, subscription management, backups, and minimal downtime as key priorities. It needed a more coordinated approach to supporting its people, systems, and online properties.

Solution

Bringing Security, Support, and Technology Planning Together

One Piece IT proposed an onboarding approach to document the environment, centralize vendor information, and establish ongoing support. The scope covered endpoint protection, cloud backups, hardware planning, subscription reviews, and preparation for supporting the company’s three websites.

Centralize IT Coordination

The proposed onboarding includes collecting credentials, inventorying hardware and systems, and organizing vendor contracts and accounts. A subscription review would identify potential savings and support more coordinated technology management.

Strengthen Security and Backup

The scope includes remote monitoring, endpoint protection, and server cloud backup. Security monitoring and backup coverage for Google Workspace are also proposed to address protection needs across the distributed environment.

Plan Hardware and Website Support

The approach includes assessing aging or unsupported hardware and developing a replacement schedule and budget. A review of the company’s three websites would prepare OPIT to assume ongoing website support.

Project Direction

A Coordinated Approach to Everyday IT Management

The proposed engagement gives Weber Projects a defined approach to bringing technology support, security, backups, and vendor coordination under one provider. It addresses the needs of a distributed team while accounting for the business applications and websites that support daily operations.

The initial focus would be documenting systems, establishing protection and backup coverage, and identifying hardware priorities. These activities would inform ongoing support and future technology decisions across the company.
